Enhancing Learning with Video

Using video in classrooms can be beneficial for student's learning. As a prospective teacher, we can use video in the classroom to introduce a topic, to review content, to provide remediation and to promote enrichment in the future. We always consider that there are different types of learner types such as kinesthetic, auditory and visual learners. I think most important thing is about our job is that defining different types of learners in the classroom and choosing a strategy to being more beneficial for their learning process.

Using video in classrooms has many advantages. We can develop students understanding about the topic by using related video in the classroom. When I was at high school, since technology had not been developed as much as today, we had no enough opportunity to use video or other technological materials to use in the classroom. We had to depend on only our course books and our teachers abstained using bag of tricks in the classroom, but now technology have been developed day by day. We have many opportunities to take advantage of improving students learning process. I think that as a teacher we never abstain using technology such as visual materials, audio and video in the classroom. Using technology as much as help students for learning processes, also help us to improve our proficiency in using technology.

Enhancing Learning with Audio

Altough hearing and listening are interelated, they are not the same thing. Both of them are communication and learnning process. In order to develop student's listening skills, usinf auditorial material migh be beneficial for them. As a teacher, we can use number of techniquies to improve student listenin abilities such as guiding listening, giving directions, asking students to listen for main ideas and using context in listening, analyizing the structure of presentation and distinguishing between revelant and irrevelant irrevelant information. There are types of auditoraial materials which we use in the classroom such as digital audio, analog audio, podcasting, streamin audio and internet radio. Using these material has many advantages. First of all, these are readily available, simple to use and portable. Secondly, these are inexpensive. Once storage devices and equipment have been purchased, there is no additional cost because the storage are erasible and reusable. Third one is that reproductive. We can duplicate audiotapes and digital files with the appropriate software and equipment.Fourth one is that provides verbal message to enhance learning. That is to say, students who have limitated reading ability can learn from audio media by listening and following along with visial and text material. Lastly, auditorial materials offer current information. That is, web-based audio is often a broadcast of live speechs, presentations, or performances. Briefly, using audio in classrooms improves students learning in second language and provides students participation in class.

Enhancing Learning with Visiuals

This week we have covered the chapter 8 which is enhancing learning with visuals. I can say that using of visual for learning is important for students learning, because using visual in classroom encourage students to thinking visually and helps them gaining new skills. Apart from the posters and textbooks, technology plays an important role to creating visual materials.

When I was at elementary school and high school, my teachers were not enthusiastic about using visuals in the classroom. Although technology was not as developed as today, still we had many facilities to using visuals in classroom with the help of the technology. I think that perception of teaching and education are changing day by day, so teachers have to keep up with the new improvements in the teaching area and they have to improve themselves.

There are various sort of visuals for using in the classroom to effect students learning ability in a positive way such as pictures, drawings posters, graphs, cartoons etc. As a prospective teacher, I think that using these sort of visuals motivate students and increase their effort in the classroom. In the future, I am planning to use all sort of visual in classroom as much as I can, of course in a meaningful and appropriate contexts.

About the Vocabularysize Test

This vocabulary test is quite amusing. During the test I could not estimate that how will be the next question's vocabulary item. Also, the test made me realize that there are so many words I do not know. As a foreign speaker of English language, I have taken several number of tests before. To be honest, this type of vocabulary tests improve my current knowledge about my vocabulary level. When I get the results of test, the results are more or less the same each other. Additionally, this type of tests provide me to learn a new vocabulary item, so I always find very useful these tools. In the future, I am planning to force my students to do this types of vocabulary tests and I will ask them to their reflection about the tests.
